Description

Blazing Rangers is an original one-screen action game for NES-compatible hardware, realized in the style of '80s arcade games.

The setting and goal is easily explained: You are a firefighter with the task to rescue all kids from a dangerous fire site.

Equipped with a water hose, you can choose between two characters and will fight an ever-growing wall of fire and a plethora of dangerous enemies to open up the way and save the children. It's also important not to dawdle around - they might get burned if you don't take some risks and hurry to their rescue!

"Coming to grips with the ins and outs of its firefighting gameplay will require a lot of strategic thinking, especially when things start to get out of hand; I love it!" - Retro Game of the Year Awards 2023

Blazing Rangers has won the Physical Retro Game of the Year on Video Chums! Click here for the article.

Game Features:

  • exciting & unique fire-fighting gameplay for real NES hardware
  • more than 32 challenging levels with many hidden secrets
  • a wide array of power-ups and enemies
  • two different game modes with strong changes to the game-play
  • 2 player co-operative play, a partner can join the game at any time
  • randomly generated dangers, each play-through will challenge you in new ways

The game was developed with mapper0 restrictions (the earliest NES cartridges) by the Japanese game developer Karu_gamo, who is known for his previous work on the Mamotte Knight series.

Differences between the artwork for FC and both NES versions:

Back in the ‘80s, FC games were originally created with only the Japanese players in mind. As the games gained popularity in the West, new versions that had to be adopted to the players’ needs were needed as the original art was often considered childish among other things. New illustrators took care of new, “compatible” artwork that in most cases didn’t at all resemble the originals. Very good examples are Mega Man 1, Mega Man 2, Ys, Shadow Dancer and many, many more. Mega Man 2 was even released in four different versions: Japanese, American, European and British.

Especially for this release and based on Karu_gamo's original illustrations and artwork, we divided the NES version into two different markets, EU US. Not only is there a different artwork for every version but we have also decided to release the EU version in the same small box size as it was known over thirty years before. The manuals will additionally reflect the era of small boxes being either folded sheets or b/w manual booklets. We at First Press Games are passionate players for decades and we are paying homage to the designs of the golden era recreating it as best as possible. We hope you will enjoy our passion and nostalgia the same way we do.

Differences between the artwork of stand-alone Regular Edition and SCE-exclusive Regular Edition versions:

Back in the ‘80s, the printing wasn't as advanced as it is today. NES boxes produced in one year didn't exactly look the same the next. We don't know if this was the reason for two different color schemes with the oldest CAPCOM games, but in the beginning they were dark blue. Shortly after the design changed to a lighter blue design with a gradiation visible. We spent a lot of time and money trying to imitate both looks and the result is astounding. We have decided to offer the older dark blue version as stand-slone while inclunding the lighter blue version in our Super Collector's Editions. Take a look at the photos below.
